Building Degree to Suit

I’ll admit it — setting this up was a little more challenging than expected. But, after playing around with a few themes and pondering over what my About and Meet the Editor would say, I think I can safely say that I got the hang of using this.

My blog topic isn’t the most exciting and it doesn’t appeal to everyone. Hopefully, the students that visit my site can gain some insight into their career preparation and job search.

For my header image, I originally went with a beautiful image of NYC

But not everyone wants to work in NYC or in a city in general, either. I didn’t think it really connected with students.

Instead, I decided to use a more relatable picture of someone being productive:

The name of the blog was the most difficult part I needed to do. I wanted to use words like “career” or “job” but I thought they were too general and I wanted to target more specific topics within those fields. I broke it down as simply as I could — what are college students working for? What’s my goal? What’s tangible and easy to picture in anyone’s mind?

Thus, degree to suit was born.

This topic is very interesting especially others around our age. So many people have difficulty making the switch to the real world and being prepared. As in the class article, your “main rooms” are very well done. It was easy to navigate your page. I would say it would be nice to add some more color, but due to the topic you chose, I don’t think this is especially necessary.

      Hi Jenna,

Thank you! I appreciate your feedback and will consider adding more color to the blog. For now, I’m trying to figure out how to organize and create content. I hope this blog aids you in your job search in any way shape or form.

Hey Michelle, I have to say I really appreciate your website topic. I think this could come in handy. “The Foundation” you used goes well with the topic. It looks really neat and simple. It is very easy to navigate. Maybe you can add more information about yourself in the Meet the editor page so people can have a better understanding about your experience with this particular topic.

      Hi Lois!

I’m actually Elena haha, it’s all good though. Thank you for your feedback 🙂 I will definitely consider adding in more information about myself in the Meet the Editor. I wasn’t too sure what to reveal about myself.

Anyway, thanks for commenting! I really appreciate it.

Your blog is beautiful! I love the simplicity and little bit of coral color that pops out from the mostly black and white. It seems very appropriate for your blog because of the professional aspect. I really like the name of your blog and it seems like you put a lot of thought and effort into it. I also think you made a great choice on the picture. I think a wider audience will definitely relate to it more than the “NYC dream” idea. Great job so far!

I really like the idea you have for this blog, and I think that the overall simple set up makes it very easy to navigate and find specific things to look for. As the article suggests you do with the “Front Door,” I think that your header does a very good job speaking for the intention of this blog. The only thing I guess I’d suggest is to choose a category, which is something I also need to do.

      Hi Quintin,

Thanks for your feedback! To be honest, it’s very hard finding the right header to be the front door, so I appreciate your comment 🙂
